Disaster Strikes as Inadvertent Detonation at Law Enforcement Facility in Indian-administered Kashmir Results in Nine Deaths
A devastating blast at a law enforcement facility in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the deaths of nine people and injuries to thirty-two others, according to police declarations.
The incident occurred when a collection of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during management operations.
Chronology of Incidents
The explosion happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam security post, where explosive materials seized from the Faridabad area in the northern province of Haryana state were being kept briefly.
Area police chief declared that the explosives were scheduled for technical investigation when a "very unfortunate" accident during management led to their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Police Declarations
Law enforcement officials asserted that this was an "unintentional explosion" and as opposed to a terror incident. "Different conjectures regarding the cause of this event is unnecessary," highlighted the law enforcement head during a press briefing.
The security post endured extensive destruction from the blast, with adjacent buildings also being impacted by the intense detonation.
Aftermath and Victims
Multiple vehicles were "covered in blaze and turned into burned shells, with fragments distributed across the site," according to authority statements.
"The power of the blast was so powerful that some human remains were recovered from nearby houses, approximately 100-200 metres away the police station," stated an official source.
The bulk of the victims were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two investigative imaging experts, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.
Government Reaction
The region's Lieutenant Governor conveyed commiserations and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have ordered a probe to determine the reason of the inadvertent detonation. Extremely pained by the loss of precious lives due to exceptionally devastating accidental blast at Nowgam security post in Srinagar. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish for speedy recovery of the injured," stated the official on online channels.
