Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Country Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels suitable to voice opinions regarding the Trump government, concerned it could intensify unhelpful debate and further divisions throughout the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Jennifer Lawrence

In a recent interview, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was running around in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”

The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has admitted freely about voting for both conservative and liberal candidates over the years. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she realized during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she commented that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.

“The second term feels different,” noted she regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”

Current Projects

The actor is discussing her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. During a press conference for the movie in Venice, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the conversations of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. Even though the director has rejected the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, the actress revealed that she connected with aspects of her role’s experience after the delivery of her second son, not long after shooting ended.

“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Career Moments

The actor also spoke about the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
