Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
