Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only seven months following starting disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Past History Between Bamford & the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
