Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not True Real Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of the year.
But the main talking point was Fulham's next goal when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the sideline.
But, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs fans jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions truly irritated Frank.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals can't be real Spurs fans that act that way. Alright jeering after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with each other going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a early lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning score."
'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It's on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and poise to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it is tough to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the box for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and place it on target. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
Although the keeper's error led coverage, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.
This was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to play prior to the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have occurred since the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
And they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their poorest averages on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
